A quarter auctions is a fun way to raise money and a great night out for bidders! The best way to really grasp the concept is to actually attend a quarter auction, but here is a brief explanation:
BIDDERS: A bidder is the guest that attends to bid on auction items. When the bidder arrives, they get a bidding paddle for $5 and purchase 25 cent "Quarter Tickets" in strips of $5. BIDDERS MUST WRITE THEIR PADDLE NUMBER ON THEIR TICKETS BEFORE THEY USE THEIR TICKETS TO BID. Quarter ticket bids are placed on items that vendor’s auction. The bid amount is based on the retail value of the item. Here is how that is determined:
1 Quarter Ticket Bid = Retail value of auction item is $5-$25
2 Quarter Ticket Bid = Retail value of auction item is $26-$50
3 Quarter Ticket Bid = Retail value of auction item is $51-$75
4 Quarter Ticket Bid = Retail value of auction item is $76 or more
The "Auctioneer" announces the item up for bid, gives a brief description including the vendor, the retail value and the required quarter tickets bid for the item. If the Bidder wants the item, they hold their paddle up, a vendor collects the 25 cent tickets that have their paddle number written on them, the auctioneer draws a ticket and the winning paddle number is announced. The new Quarter Ticket procedure takes out the re-drawing due to "no bid" paddle numbers drawn as well as "lightens the load" of the heavy quarters. The best part is that the bidder can put in as many tickets as they want on item to increase their chances to win! NOTE: if the item is a 2 Quarter Ticket bid, then 2 Quarter Tickets must be put in for each bid.
BIDDING PADDLES: $5 for a bidding paddle, only one is needed with the new "no quarters" 25 cent tickets.
FUND RAISING: Money is raised from the paddles as well as donated auction items from the vendors and vendor table fees.
FUND RAISING "CHARITY" PARTICIPATION: After a date has been set, a flyer will be emailed to the charity to forward and pass out to promote their fund raising event. The charity is encouraged to have at LEAST 75 "bidders" in attendance. The more bidders, the more funds raised.
VENDORS: A quarter auction is a great way for direct sales and service businesses to promote and sell their products & services. Vendors pay a fee to set up a display table. . Vendors put 3 to 4 items in the auction. One of the items is donated so all the quarter bids collected on that item go to the fund raiser. The other items they put in go back to them to help recoup their expense. Most quarter auctions have 12 to 18 vendors, which mean there is the potential to have over 70 items to bid on! Vendors also invite bidders and are encouraged to have 3 in attendance. Only ONE representative from a direct sales company will be allowed at each event.
